E-Commerce Agentic Playbook
E-Commerce AI Discovery: Product Data and Platform Scope
Check the relevant Catalog or approved direct-feed path, accurate product information and each platform’s availability. Separate submission, discovery, checkout and business measurement; no common feed or refresh interval guarantees selection.

CH.01
Discovery and Checkout Are Different Tasks
Help buyers find reliable information and complete a correct purchase. The available checkout and data paths depend on platform, product, market and merchant eligibility; neither stage can be ignored.
OpenAI’s March 24, 2026 announcement emphasized product discovery and merchant checkout choices, not the end of every Instant Checkout option. Current OpenAI help still describes selected eligible Instant Checkout. Shopify’s ChatGPT path completes checkout in the merchant’s online store.
A shopper may compare specifications, prices, availability and genuine reviews from supported catalogs, feeds or web information. There is no verified rule here that nine in ten outcomes are settled at a fixed shortlist of three to five products. Check your actual product path and buyer journey.
| Dimension | Checkout tasks | Discovery tasks |
|---|---|---|
| Buyer task | Complete payment and an accurate order | Find and compare relevant product information |
| Current interface | Merchant or eligible product checkout; platform-specific | Options from supported Catalog, feed or web sources |
| Merchant responsibility | Total cost, policies, payment and fulfillment | Accurate product and variant data, access and submission |
| What to measure | Checkout completion and orders with defined attribution | Observed discovery, accuracy and relevant visits |
Complementary buyer tasks; not a universal priority or guaranteed shortlist.
Chapter takeaway
Confirm discovery and checkout separately. A useful feed is one data path, not the only route to visibility or a reason to neglect your product page.

CH.02
Accurate Data Across Feed and Product Page
Feeds, catalogs and public product pages can supply information. Use the confirmed schema and keep buyer-facing facts consistent; page content and purchase experience still matter.
Required fields vary by delivery contract. Stable OpenAI-format discovery files have nine basic required fields; Google-compatible inputs and APIs differ. GTIN is optional in that OpenAI format and conditional elsewhere. Missing optional data is not proof of silent exclusion or a ranking penalty.

| Feed field | Before (typical symptom) | After (the rewrite) |
|---|---|---|
| Title | Stuffed with promo words and symbols: "★LIMITED★ Best-Value Dehumidifier Free Shipping" | A factual product title identifying the relevant variant |
| Product identifiers | Identifier rules depend on the selected format | Stable item_id; real GTIN/MPN only where known and required |
| Attributes | Size, capacity, and use case buried in the description paragraph | Use supported attributes and clear factual descriptions |
| Price and inventory | Feed out of sync with the site: shows in stock when it's actually out | Reconcile the same offer and update through the supported path |
| Review signals | Reviews may be absent or available only on a page | Share genuine review data only where supported; not universally required |
Five data checks, not a universal required-field schema.
Chapter takeaway
Improve accurate feed and page information together. Validate the actual contract rather than filling every possible field or assuming a complete feed guarantees selection.
CH.03
Choose Platform Paths Separately
One catalog can supply integrations, but it is not automatically one accepted feed or one checkout contract across ChatGPT, Perplexity and Amazon.
Prioritize an eligible path for your actual audience and product. Confirm merchant participation, buyer market, data delivery, checkout and costs. Current official product descriptions do not establish the largest traffic, highest-income audience or best ROI among these platforms.
| Surface | Supported product path | Availability and limits | Merchant decision |
|---|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT | Shopify Catalog for eligible products, or approved direct OpenAI integration | Shopify path currently requires US buyers; direct onboarding and market contract differ | Check eligibility and chosen schema before building |
| Perplexity | Perplexity Merchant Program describes product details, reviews and merchant checkout | Confirm current merchant, payment and market terms; no verified demographic or universal zero-fee rule here | Test audience fit and actual costs before prioritizing |
| Amazon Alexa for Shopping (formerly Rufus) | Amazon product/web information, reviews and personalized shopping; eligible Shop Direct/Buy for Me include other stores | Official rollout describes US customers; features and merchant paths have eligibility limits | Check the applicable Amazon or external-store path, not an Amazon-stock-only rule |
Three platform paths to verify, without ranking their traffic or return.
STEP 1
Check the ChatGPT path
Verify Catalog eligibility or approved direct integration. Follow that contract; neither fastest refresh nor largest volume is established here.
STEP 2
Check the Perplexity merchant terms
Confirm current participation, data, market, payment and costs. Do not infer high-ticket ROI from unverified demographics.
STEP 3
Check Amazon and external-store scope
Verify product information and the applicable store/Shop Direct path. Current Alexa for Shopping includes eligible off-Amazon discovery; no shared universal feed is assumed.
Chapter takeaway
Compare eligibility, audience fit and measured cost under each platform’s conditions. Keep data consistent while using the actual supported delivery and checkout paths.
CH.04
Supported Refresh and Processing
Correct price and stock help buyers. Publishing, submission, processing and display are separate events; no fixed refresh interval proves a learned trust score.
OpenAI’s file-upload guide recommends full catalog snapshots at least daily. Get Started also describes API updates during the day; enabled APIs and Catalog-managed updates have separate paths. Do not impose a universal 15-minute requirement or claim daily snapshots automatically lose eligibility.
Shopify reports Q1 2026 AI-driven store traffic grew 8× year over year and AI-powered-search orders nearly 13×. These are publisher-reported aggregate channel changes, not a comparison proving frequent feed updates caused growth or forecasting your store’s orders.

Shopify reports 8× traffic and nearly 13× orders, Q1 2026 year over year. Bar lengths compare reported multiples, not absolute volumes, per-store return or a causal refresh experiment. Source: Shopify, June 18, 2026.
Chapter takeaway
Follow the supported delivery cadence and monitor data age, processing and offer consistency. Platform channel growth does not establish a required interval or an individual merchant’s return.
CH.05
Accurate Attributes and Genuine Reviews
Relevant attributes and genuine reviews help buyers compare. Official product capabilities do not establish a universal highest weight, mandatory review feed or guaranteed ranking gain.
Provide known factual specifications and limitations for the actual variant. Reviews may help explain experience, but they are not a substitute for substantiated specifications. Do not invent reviews, identifiers or hidden confidence thresholds, and do not assume every platform ingests the same review fields.
| Data type | Information value to check | What you should do |
|---|---|---|
| Structured attributes | Support factual buyer comparisons | Use supported fields and readable descriptions for real specifications |
| Rating and review count | Show review context, if available | Use supported genuine rating/count data with the right product scope |
| Review content summary | Explain real reported experience | Summarize genuine reviews fairly, with context and no fabricated endorsement |
| Attribute consistency | Keep facts for the same item consistent | Align actual variant, units and identifiers; exact wording is not a universal requirement |
Useful data and review checks; not known recommendation weights.
- →Use specific factual attributes where supported; do not invent values to fill a field.
- →Only share genuine reviews through supported fields; absence of a review feed is not an automatic failure.
- →Support product claims with appropriate evidence; reviews are not proof of every specification.
- →Keep product/variant identity and units consistent across paths, without claiming every word must match.
Chapter takeaway
Accurate attributes and genuine review context are useful information. Validate format and source rights; do not present them as universal ranking weights or mandatory recommendation gates.

The E-Commerce GEO Shipping Checklist
This Tenten worklist checks an actual merchant path. It covers data, discovery, updates and measurement without requiring every platform or promising agent selection.
FEED
Validate the relevant data contract
Confirm Catalog or approved direct path and required/conditional fields. In Stable OpenAI files use the nine-field reference, not interchangeable CSV/TSV/XML/JSON or universal GTIN/review requirements.
DISCOVER
Choose eligible discovery paths
Check buyer market, products, participation, costs and checkout for each relevant platform. Prioritize observed audience needs, not unsupported traffic or income rankings.
REFRESH
Monitor accurate offers and processing
Use supported full snapshots or enabled API/Catalog updates; reconcile price, variant and stock. Record submission, processing and data age rather than a universal 15-minute ceiling.
TRACK
Measure observations and business results separately
Use fixed shopping questions and record product/interface/mode/region/language/date/repeated observations and denominators. Separate display, brand/product mention, clicks and attributable orders; record uncertainty instead of assuming rejection.
| Check item | Passing standard | Relevant chapter |
|---|---|---|
| Feed field completeness | Chosen schema required and conditional fields validated; optional unknowns not fabricated | Chapters 2, 5 |
| Cross-surface coverage | Chosen paths and market/product/merchant eligibility documented; inapplicable paths excluded | Chapter 3 |
| Refresh discipline | Supported update cadence, current offer consistency and processing monitored | Chapter 4 |
| Reviews and attributes | Accurate supported attributes and genuine, fairly represented review data where available | Chapter 5 |
| Tracking definition | Fixed-condition observations with denominators, separate visits/orders and stated limits | Chapter 6 |
Validate the chosen route; optional or inapplicable features are not automatic failures.
One last word
Make product information accurate, choose relevant supported paths and preserve a reliable purchase experience. Eligibility, processing and observed display are different facts; none alone guarantees recommendations, sales or ROI.
Sources & methodology
Revised from official sources read on October 5, 2026 (Taipei). OpenAI/Shopify delivery, eligibility and checkout are scoped separately from Perplexity and Amazon product descriptions. Shopify June 18, 2026 reports Q1 aggregate traffic 8× and orders nearly 13×; that is not causal proof of feed refresh. Unverified platform demographics, GMV/search share, shortlist conversion and universal weights are not used as evidence.
